New & On Sale - Wish Upon A Star

Dreamland, that place we sail to in our sleep. The place of ethereal dancers, floating in the clouds and slumberous sheep. Come hang stars and reach for the moon. This kit embodies all of those ideas. It came to me one day and I couldn't stop working on it till it was finished. This was truly on of those dream kits that came together in 2 weeks instead of the usual 6 months+. I love that this kit has so much potential and diversity. I personally scrapped 6 pages with it in just a few hours and they are all so different from each other!!! I have plans for another few pages too. I love all of my kits but this one seriously is probably one of my all time favorites. I hope you will take a minute and check it out HERE.

Birds and The Bees

Eek, I am 2 weeks late with this post. Life has been a bit crazy at home and well, time just flies. I have this quirk that the day after Christmas, I want it all gone. Decorations, tree, etc. They all have to go. I want the house clean and fresh feeling...so you can sort of see where this kit came especially this time of year. Just had to indulge myself in something fresh, floral and pretty. This kit is jam packed with birds of all sorts. From vintage to real to illustrated, they are all there. To compliment them there are an assortment of bees, flowers and other goodies...including a mischievous feline. You can find Birds and The Bees here.

It's my favorite time of year, the Christmas season. Christmas is so different than Halloween. Halloween is a production, an event at our house but Christmas is much different with a whole different feel. I love the sense of family, the peacefulness and spirit of love. There is sense of community. I also love the tradition of Christmas and the rituals each family seems to have. It's all just so special. This year I did a festive and fun kit, Holly Jolly, to celebrate the season with. It's perfect for scrapping and digital art. There is something for everyone in it. I also created an add-on pack. Who can resist paint, glitter and some washi tape? I have included two versions - with and without titles for more versatility.

My CT was filling pretty festive as you can see. I am amazed at all of the different looks!

Our Halloween Haunt

Hey Everyone. So y'all know we are nuts for Halloween around here. We go all out...crazy all out. We spend months building and creating new additions to our home haunt. We do a huge cemetery on our front lawn and do a pirate show in our atrium. We added a bunch of new stuff to the pirate show this year and only a few things to the cemetery...like the dancing bride and groom who waltz and our new zombie, Edna, who is trying to get out of her grave (sorry no vid on them.) We sort of over shot our abilities to get it all set up this year. Nick and I do this without any help and nearly killed ourselves. We are pledging to make 2012 a bit easier on ourselves. That said, its awesome to see all of the kids faces, parents too, as they watch the show and cheer.

Sorry I am a little late on this post. Those of you who know me, Halloween is a HUGE event at our house. We sort of take it to a whole new level of over the top amazingness. Needless to say, that kind of display takes weeks to accomplish and we were literally finishing it up as the kids began to arrive. Nick and I are very battered and bruised from all the hard work of setting it up and now, taking it down but there is nothing better than hearing all of the ooohs and aaahs from the little ones (and their parents.)

Anyhoodle, I present to you my newest kit, Fly Free. Fly Free is the theme of The Deviant Muse this month and it inspired me to try something new. I felt the need to paint and get my hands dirty. I wanted to do something a little more fun and playful then my usual. This kit is great for altered art, ATCs, cards, etc. There are lots of fun papers and accessories to dress these darling gals up.

I love the mailman. Why? Because he brings me Somerset magazines! I love Somerset with a passion (all of the different publications they have) but of coarse, Memories and Digital Studio are my favs. I always find a zillion ideas and inspirations in them. New Collab Kit - Ode To A Muse 2

I am so thrilled to debut my new collab kit created with the wickedly talented Evelyn of Finecrafted Designs. Evelyn and I have both been fans of assemblage artist Michael deMeng's work forever. I have even had the pleasure of taking 2 classes with him. He is always inspirational and a total doll. His work is dark and a bit gritty. I find his pieces just enthralling. With his blessing, Evelyn and I set out to create a kit as a homage to him. We started tossing the idea back and forth a few months ago and suddenly we couldn't wait to start working on it! I went straight to the junkyard, gathering up neat bits and pieces. Evelyn opened her closet and got the skeletons out. Within a few weeks, we had this kit wrapped up. It came together so easily. We were so excited. The hardest part was sitting on it for 2 months for it's release today. I hope you find it as much fun to create with as we do!

New & On Sale - Broken

Life isn't perfect. Some times we feel lost or broken. We see dreams shattered like glass. Pieces left in the trash. It's all real and it has a place in our art, our pages. I am a strong believer that scrap/art therapy really does help. I have found release upon creating many a page. Some people find it odd that I am willing to share these pages with the world but to me I find that when I do, the weight is lifted from my shoulders. I am sending it out into the universe. It is freed. One thing I have learned too is that I am not alone. Others have shared their feelings with me and have found strength in too. Broken is a kit that is filled with elements and papers to help you on this journey. Discarded and broken...these symbols are perfect for expressing life's not so pretty moments.

My CT did an amazing job with this kit too.

And because I sort of suck at blogging, I forgot to post my last two kits. Eek! In Black and White is a fun and funky kit. It's filled with black and white papers and elements with punches of color. It's perfect for teenagers or pop pages. Gotta Hand It To You is a fun pack of hands in different poses. They are great for changing up perspective and getting creative with.

Halloween count down

It's that time of year and we are in full out Halloween making mode. Having won Best Home Haunt in America last year, we are feeling the need to step it up this year. We are doubling our pirate display with more animated skeletons. Nick is making 5 more that move and talk!!! We are also adding his pirate video projection behind the setup. I have been in charge of all the faux finishing of the skeletons. Straight out of the box just won't do. I antique them and gunk them up by using MinWax gelstain in Aged Oak. That stuff makes them look awesome. I also spent part of last weekend sewing pirate costumes. Now, before you get too impressed with that, my sewing skills go no further than what I learned at Mrs. Lam's knee in 6th grade Home Ec. I created the patterns by roughly sketching on the fabric around the skeleton. I then cut out the fabric, pinned it and did a straight stitch. Thank god they don't have to fit perfect!!!! Of course after me spending half a day making them, Nick ratted them up.

Another project I tackled was making wire ghosts. I had seen a photo on the net and thought they looked wicked cool and would be perfect for the hills in the backyard. I bought a 48" tall roll of chicken wire and some thin gauge wire. I wasn't sure how much to use, so I had my husband stand up and wrapped it around him and then went a little smaller. I did it in three pieces, the body, the arms and the head and shoulders. For the head, I molded it around a head form I had and then removed the head. The body was a little tricky at first but once I figured out what I was doing it got much easier. The arms are a tube of wire that is split on each end to taper into the body. I "sewed" the whole thing together with wire. They are very cool and only cost like $3.00 each to make! Can't beat that.

This is just a personal mommy moment here. Where did my little boy go? My baby. J has grown by leaps and bounds (I have the high water pants collection to prove it too!) We were sitting outside and I was snapping away and in some of the photos, I would swear he was at least 13. No! No! No! 8 is a good age. Please baby don't grow up too fast. Love you!

This is a serious o.m.g. moment. Look who’s name is gracing the cover of Somerset Digital Studio? Gasp! It’s mine!!! I can’t begin to tell you how good that feels. I have been working so hard for the past few years. Working on my art, my kits, my scrapping and to finally see it all coming together is so rewarding. I am truly honored and humbled by this acknowledgment. A huge thank you to Jana Holstein and all of the other wonderful ladies of Stampington & Co.

It's hard to believe that I haven't done a Hollywood kit yet. I mean, I grew up in Hollywood, my husband is in the industry and my design name is Holliewood Studios!!! From making movies to watching them to the Red Carpet, I have you covered. I had loads of fun making this kit and it's really near and dear to me. Have you dreamed of being a director (and trust me, everyone in Hollywood wants to be one), then the back lot is set and ready for you to call, "Action!" Maybe you dream of being a star? Well, the red carpet is unrolled and the paparazzi are shouting for you to look their way. Or perhaps you just love to watch movies. I am so happy to announce the arrival of our newest designer, Art by January. January is an amazing artist who actually paints her elements in watercolors or acrylics and then carefully extracts them. You will not believe the detail and realism she brings to life in her art.

January is a mountain fairy, who found her way to us via Clementine and Lorie Davison. She lives in a fairytale castle with her wolves as companions. She is new to our realm of the world, so please take a moment to drop by DeviantScrap and give her a warm welcome.

Do you Pinterest? I have to admit I have become quite obsessed with this site. I find it so inspirational and rather helpful. I love looking at other peoples pins. The web is so huge that it is impossible to see everything. Pinterest kind of funnels it for you. You can follow other people or just specific boards. There is everything from party ideas to scrumptious goodies to drool over to DIY ideas. I call this site,"The Great Rabbit Hole" because once I start looking and following links to new sites and blogs....well, hours just disappear. I always leave feeling inspired with new ideas zinging through my little head. You have to send a request for an invitation to join and it can take a few weeks to get one, but trust me....it's worth the wait!!!

Holy cows!!! Where has the last year gone? It's hard to believe that only a year ago I was opening the doors to DeviantScrap. So much has happened in that time span. We have grown by leaps and bounds, amazing designers have joined me and a community of kindred spirits has formed. I am so grateful for all of these special events. I have such faith and belief in DS and thank everyone who has been a part of this journey.

Clever People

One of my favorite things to do on the weekends is to pull up a chair, grab a cup of coffee (well, more like 3 or 4) and blog surf. I start at a few favs and then click from there. I just meander through cyber-space. I am always in awe of how many clever and talented people are out there.

Here are a few things/people that grabbed my attention today.

How clever is this wallpaper by Taylor and Woods?!?!?! You can paint it or you can add photos to it. Oh, how I wish I add a room (or dreaming big here, art studio) that I could do this. May have to work on the Mister to at least let me do the loo.

I love this vintage camera display by Tim Melideo. I have a few and maybe have to scout the flea markets for a few more. I think this would look awesome in our house. It's really a great idea for any collection.

If you have a boy in your life, then you probably have Lego in your life. Jason is an avid Lego builder and I have huge respect for the time that goes into building Lego creations.

Flickr user and Lego fan, Larry Lars created a Lego vignette of his home photo studio. Check out how faithful he was. So cool!

Next up is Natsumi. This clever girl has created a series of photographs in which she appears to be levitating. It's such a unique idea and I find her photos to be quite intriguing and captivating.

Confession time. I should be working on my new kit but it's rainy, I am a bit under the weather and well....I got sidetracked. Blog surfing will do that. I love discovering new artists, new ideas and new websites. It's like a modern day treasure hunt. Today, I was on Gary Reef's website and he had linked up 2 very inspirational videos from Ted.com. Ted.com is an amazing website!! They post videos from some of the most amazing and inspirational people in the world. The videos are free to watch. Their tag line...."Ideas worth spreading." Most videos run about 20 mins and range from science to design to business.

I agree with Gary and think these two are definitely worth a watch.

First up is Elizabeth Gilbert. She is the author of Eat, Pray, Love, She has thought long and hard about some large topics. Her next fascination: genius, and how we ruin it. Here, she muses on the impossible things we expect from artists and geniuses -- and shares the radical idea that, instead of the rare person "being" a genius, all of us "have" a genius. It's a funny, personal and surprisingly moving talk.

Next is Neil Pasricha. Neil's blog 1000 Awesome Things savors life's simple pleasures, from free refills to clean sheets. In this heartfelt talk, he reveals the 3 secrets (all starting with A) to leading a life that's truly awesome.

I have had an idea for this kit for a while. The design folder has been on my hard drive for at least a year. I have slowly been adding things to it as I find them or shoot them. The kit became a bit of a mash between the 60's and 70's with a little 50's thrown in. I have such fond memories of my childhood. Things were a lot simpler and more free. As kids we ran around, parents didn't worry and life as fun. I have vivid memories of piling into the car, stopping at our favorite donut shop (this was a treat!!) and then hitting the road. We loved to go camping and went often. Or going back East to visit my cousins. We were like a pack of puppies hanging out the back window of the station wagon, as we went on some new adventure. I am smiling to myself just thinking about those times. Happy memories for sure! Anyhow, now you know how this kit came about. Hope it brings back happy thoughts for you too!

New - Stenciled & Sprayed

Currently, I am totally obsessed with the look for spray painted art journals. Problem is I don’t want to get out the spray paints, cut out stencils and get messy. I am a digi gal. So what’s a girl to do? Well….design some spray painted stencil effects. Layer them up, mix and match, play with your blend modes. There are a zillion uses for these goodies. Clip them to bits of paper or fabric. Funk up elements in your stash. I promise once you use these, you will be addicted.

Queen of Cakes - New Collab Kit with Tangie Baxter

I had the extreme honor of being asked to do a collab kit with the divine Tangie Baxter. I have always been a huge fan of Tangie's work and jumped at the chance to create with her. She picked the theme of Marie Antoinette and I love the idea. I don't usually do girly kits, so this was a really fun experience. I adore how the kit turned out. Its a really neat mix of realistic, artsy and funky. You can really get lots of different looks out of it.

Ready to Art Journal?

For me, this is the year of art journaling. I have spent years documenting Jason's childhood, but sometimes I need an outlet for other things in life. I want to be able to explore other subjects. Some silly. Some serious. But whatever it is I want to be able to get it out. Art journaling also gives me the opportunity to try out other styles. I am really enjoying the process and the new spurt of creativity it has brought me. My only rule on this new adventure is...No Rules! I am not going to worry about having a cohesive journal at the end. It's going to be pure experimentation and play. I am going to get out my digi scissors and paint and go to town. As you can see, my last few kits and element packs are a reflection of that. I want to create digi versions of some of the IRL stuff you would use in a journal.

A New Collab Kit!

I love art that is whimsical with a bit of surrealism. That quirk that can take a vintage image and turn it on its head. I had an idea for a kit that would be an Ode to these artistic muses. I knew the minute I thought of it, that I needed a creative partner. Who else but my darling Evelyn of Finecrafted Designs. She was just the woman to join me and bring her posse of vintage peeps to this party. Together, we created a kit that is finely tuned with just the right mix of people, elements and backgrounds. Our creative teams had so much fun playing with it. This is just a fraction of the work they created. I guarantee, you will want to play with this kit over and over.

I know, I know...Christmas already? But seriously, time is flying by so fast that it's going to be here before you blink. Christmas Morning is all about this frosty season. Welcome To My Nightmare

I am so behind on blogging! Blogger locked me out and it's taken forever to get back in! But, I am here now with lots of exciting things happening. This is one of my favorite times of the year...Halloween! I love decorating and making cool, scary stuff. We go all out at my house and if you remember what we did last year, we are doubling it in size this year! We are adding a cemetery out front and are building everything ourselves, including the tombstones. They are looking amazing! Can't wait to show you!

In my excitement this year, I have 2 new Halloween kits. The first, which I released 2 weeks ago, Haute Halloween is an elegant kit. Think Pottery Barn meets Halloween. Totally chic and not a drop of purple in it. Today, I am debuting my second kit, Welcome To My Nightmare. This kit is crazy creepy. It's truly the stuff nightmares are made of. My deviant CT really had a blast playing with it and yeah, they sort of scare me now....LOL! It's on sale until Wednesday only.

So, I have to admit, the whole altered art bug has sort of bit me. I am loving that I can use my digi supplies for other projects and expand my artistic vision. I am still a die hard scrapper because I have to do something with the zillion photos I take of Jason. So for this round of new product, I created mini kits that can be used for either scrapping or altered art. First up is Theatre of Dreams. This mini kit is perfect for creating little staged vignettes. I think there are a ton of uses for these theatres and you will have great fun using them. My CT sure did!

Then, I created 2 new ATC sized kits. ATCs are my new obsession! We have an ongoing ATC swap happening at DeviantScrap and can I tell you how much fun it is to get a little piece of art from fellow artists in the mail?!?! These 2 kits have 5x7 BGs and frames that can be used, as is, for Jumbos or scaled in half for actuals.

I know this is my personal blog but sometimes I just have to break my own rules and share DS news. I am so happy to announce that two new designers have joined us at DeviantScrap!!

First off is Clementine Howell of Clementine Designs. Clementine has such a unique and creative perspective. She is a fresh, unique voice in the scrapping world, as I am sure you will agree. I am so happy she has joined us!!

Artist Bio:

If you’re looking for Clementine Howell, she can usually be found trekking around the beautiful mountains of Idaho, trusty camera in tow. She makes her home near a tiny little burg full of lively characters and lovely scenery, and takes her inspiration from the everyday beauty that she sees all around her, from the misspelled cracked sign barely hangin’ on a chain link fence to the creaky ramshackle country market where she bought penny candy as a girl. Our next new designer is Nancy Baumiller of Crowabout StudioB. Nancy is a long time mixed media artist. Her creative view is funky, fresh and wild. Her work just sings with happiness.

Artist Bio

Nancy Baumiller grew up in a small town in the Northwest, in Yakima Washington State, also known as the ‘Evergreen State’. She had resided there for 36 years, when she met her soul mate and moved to Tennessee, a very long way from home. Nancy is a mother to 5 wonderful children, 3 wonderful step-children and a grandmother to two lovely grandbabies.

Nancy has always been immersed in the world of art and has been creating art ever since she could first hold a crayon. About 5 years ago, she discovered mixed media collage art and art journaling. A new passion was immediately born and she now has many, many colorful art journals and has large portfolio of art under her belt. Her works have been published numerous times in publications like Somerset Studio. This year, she was contacted by Strathmore Art Papers to be one of their poster children for their new “Visual Journals” line. In addition to her love of pen and paper, Nancy decided to take the leap into digital this year. She loves the flexibility that digital elements give to altered artists. Nancy has taken her unique, zetti style and has translated it into digital. Her fun, irreverent style screams “play with me!!”

As we all know, your shadow work can make or break your pages. Proper shadowing is what sells your pages....it's also one of the most challenge techniques to master. Shadow work is an art. It's understanding light sources and the nuances of shadow and light. Sound complex and daunting? Not really, once you understand the foundations of it. Miss Behaving is a Master of Shadowing. She is now teaching workshops at DeviantScrap.com and will be sharing all her secret tricks. Even if you think you know shadows, I promise you will walk away grateful that you took this class. Art is about learning and expanding your thought process and Miss B's workshops are certain to do that!

Well, as many of you know, the new owners of DST completely botched up our annual SCA. They turned it into a popularity click fest to drive more traffic to their site without a care if the best of the best really won. They simply turned it into a popularity contest. This turned off and angered a lot of people....myself included. The minute I realized what was happening, I contacted Ripal and we decide that we would set this straight and host our own awards....the proper way! Inspired by my friend, Patty Ann, I am happy to present to you my latest kit. My Fellow Thing Finder sent me this Pippi Longstocking quote and I immediately felt a deep connection to it.

"What are we going to do now?" asked Tommy.

"I don't know what you are going to do," said Pippi, "but I know I can't lie around and be lazy. I am a Thing-finder, and when you're a Thing-finder you don't have a minute to spare."

"What did you say you are?" asked Annika.

"A Thing-finder."

"What's that?" asked Tommy.

"Someone who hunts for things, naturally. What else could it be?" said Pippi.

"The whole world is full of things and somebody has to look for them. And that's just what a Thing-finder does," she finished.

"What kind of things?" asked Annika.

"Oh, all kinds," said Pippi. "Lumps of gold, ostrich feathers, dead rats, candy snapcrackers, and tiny little screws, and things like that."

I am a Thing Finder. My parents are Thing Finders. My son is a Thing Finder. I can't help myself but collect the things that capture my interest. I love the hunt as much as the score. I think it is a sad state of affairs when others feel the need to judge another person's choice of expression. The bigotry that goes on in this community astounds me. It is everyone's personal choice how they want to use a scrap kit to express themselves....family pages, feelings, emotions, art therapy or even just to entertain themselves creating and having a bit of fun. It's their choice and their opinion. I can appreciate the feelings and creativity that go into a simple paper-like page as much as I can appreciate the artistry that goes into a complex fantasy page.

The world would be a very boring place if everyone wore the exact same clothes, drove the same cars and ate the same food. My wish is for everyone to celebrate their own creative spirit and encourage everyone else to celebrate theirs. Be your own person. Dare to be different!! It's not as scary as you think. Love to you all!

I present to you my newest kit, Love and War. I actually created this kit for myself. I was finally ready to scrap my divorce and didn't have anything in my stash to do so. I wanted, no needed, to do this for myself. I had to get my feelings out so I could close the door on that chapter of my life for good. I wish life was only kittens and rainbows, but it's not. My divorce caused me huge pain and I have really had to work through my issues. I am so grateful that I met Nick and that we have a wonderful life together now. I felt a huge release creating these pages. I am not a wordsmith but I can express myself visually and feel great satisfaction in the images I created. My wish is that others can use this kit to help explore some of these hard moments life throws at us.

I am truly grateful to my CT for the raw, emotion packed layouts they created with this kit.

Halloween at our house was over the top this year. It was like Disneyland meets Universal Studios. Nick is amazing and created a show for our visitors. Nothing was just bought and plopped down. Everything was customized. He made the skeletons talk and sing. He took regular pumpkins and made them sing. He built Michael Meyers, Jason and the Swat Zombie. I faux finished everything for a more realistic look. Nothing was left untouched. But, I have to admit we raided our studio of all the foliage and alot of the props, so we really spent very little money to achieve all of this. Even my son got into the spirit and helped to decorate. He was incharge of all the rats, snakes and critters that were tucked into all the nooks and crannies. It really was a blast to create and even more fun to watch our visitors faces.

Can you believe the holidays are already rolling in? Where did this year go? It seriously flashed by for me. But I guess that is ok, I love the holidays. I love being with my family, sharing our traditions and seeing everything fresh through Jason's eyes. Nothing like the excitement of a 6 year old to keep you on your toes. One of the things that is synonymous with the holidays in our household is food! There are definite things that need to be on the table. My mom is a wicked cook and we have always cooked Thanksgiving together since I was little. Jason has now joined us and we have such a great time. I created this kit to help document all of your food traditions, recipes and cravings. The kit is huge and is packed with all sorts of food and loads of kitchen items. New Kit - ON DISPLAY

I was invited by Digital Artist Magazine to be a featured designer and create an exclusive kit for them. I love the magazine and eagerly jumped at the chance. I am always trying to think of ways to create kits to show off multiple photos or my son's art work. Fridge Art was my first kit that addressed that and now, On Display. This is a full kit with 7 papers and 33 unique elements. I have included a shadowed version as well. There are so many possibilities with this kit plus it's just super fun to play with! So be sure to pick your issue up this month. It also features darling kits by Kaye Winiecki and Nikki Beaudreau.
And as always, my wonderful CT rocked it hard!!!

I saw this and feel instantly in love!! If I had the space, I would do it in a heartbeat! Designer Isabel Quiroga wanted to use some old pieces of furniture to create something new, original and unique …and she created this bookcase made of used tables. The tables are small cut and stacked. This is a great example of reuse old pieces of furniture to create something cool. The design is suitable for various purposes, including the establishment of a store. This design is called Storyteller, because Isabel is fascinated by the history of this furniture.

Halloween is quickly becoming one of my favorite holidays. I love dressing up and becoming someone else. I love the decorations and how it's become a family event for us to create a haunted house in the atrium of our house. It's one holiday that Nick really gets into and becomes a kid himself. I love the imagery of Halloween too....the black cats, pumpkins and spooky things. I actually have a large black cat collection that I love to bring out for Halloween. Nick and I are already planning the additions we are going to make to our display this year. It really got me into the mood to create this kit. My mojo was off the charts for this one and I hope you find as much to inspire you as I did. There really is something in it for everyone and hopefully you will find yourself scrapping page after page with it. I seriously had so many ideas that I knocked out 5 pages in 2 days!! I am happy to bring you my newest kit, ON THE ROAD. This kit was created per the request of my CT member, Sue Issacson. So, thank you Sue for the inspiration. When I started assembling things for the kit, I had a traditional travel kit in mind. But then, I started exploring the idea that it could be used for more things than just travel...like a personal journey, ideas of exploration or future destinations. The roads can be used to symbolize many ideas. The signage to document places, discoveries or ideals. I hope that everyone can find ways to use this kit for lots of different concepts. I know I did and look what my CT dreamed up!

I swear I am a neat person. Well, I was before I had a household with 2 dogs, 1 six year old and a Nick. I just never seem to quite catch up. There are never enough hours in the day it seems. I am learning to resign myself with the fact that my house will never be perfect again. My desk is one of those areas that things just accumulate. Nick and Jason's junk end up here too. Why? I have no idea. But on any given day there is an odd assortment of items. But there are the standard things too. A couple Cheerios...yep. Hairclips...yep! An assort of drinks...yep. It all just never seems to go away.

Anyhow, this space where I spend my days and many a nights, gave me inspiration for my latest kit. It's an aerial view which I though would be a fun perspective to play with. It's a great way to show off loads of photos, kids art, as well as just a snap shot of your day. You can find DESK MESS! on sale until Friday.

So....in case you were wondering what I have been up to (I know you haven't but I am gonna tell ya anyways:), Nick has been tapped to create the promotional trail for the SAW VI event in Las Vegas. FrightDome, located at Circus Circus, is ranked one of the top Haunted Houses in the country. Its a mega event and this year they have the SAW movie rights and are going all out recreating the movie into a live experience. Nick is filming a trailer to promote the event. It's going to be a mini movie that's going to be kick ass!

Culinary Adventures with a 6 Year Old

So this morning, I decided to take Jason on a culinary adventure. I always let Jason have whatever he wants for breakfast on Sundays. Doritos and ice cream... so be it. Today, he wanted a cupcake. I didn't exactly have any on hand and as L.A. is filled with cupcake boutiques, I figured it was time to give one a try. I read a bunch of reviews. Leda's was my first choice but it turns out they are closed for remodeling. Next choice, Big Sugar Bakeshop. It is located on Ventura Blvd in Studio City. It's a fun shopping area lined with nifty boutiques. Big Sugar is a charming shop. It totally reminds me of a bakery in New York. It's filled with retro, fun furniture and cool gifts. The bakery selection is not huge but I rather have a limited selection of super fresh goodies. Jason picked out a chocolate chocolate cupcake and I picked the daily special, an icebox cupcake. We sat down in the window to savor our goodies. Jason thought his selection was super yummy...not too sweet, dense, rich and moist. My icebox cupcake was served cold and was like the world's best Hostess Cupcake. Dark, dense chocolate cake filled with vanilla creme, topped with ganache. Holy cows!!! Tastebud nirvana! I really wish I had never walked into the shop. I have a feeling that these cupcakes will be calling my name on a regular basis. I want to taste all of them now.

Next stop was the Studio City Farmers Market. It's small and just the perfect size. Jason had a blast tasting all the fresh fruit. Peaches and plums were his favorite. There was one vendor that had heirloom tomatoes that were gorgeous. I had to get some of those for a salad tonight. The colors and shapes are so fantastic.

After the Market, we were walking back to the car and passed a restaurant called, The Counter. Jason said he was starving (hard to believe) and could we stop and have lunch. Good call, Jason! The Counter is a gourmet burger joint. They hand you a clipboard with all your choices and you build your own burger. I had a 1/3lb. burger with mixed lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, crispy onions, imported swiss cheese, pickles and sprouts. It was huge! Everything was fresh and delicious. The guy next to us had a 1lb. burger and lord, it was a monster. J and I shared a Fifty-Fifty order of french fries and sweet potato fries. So good! Jason said that he thought the meat tasted as good as what his grandfather makes and that is a huge compliment, as he is a grill master. We left stuffed and oh so happy. The waitstaff was super friendly and the service great. They have a bunch of locations so check and see if there is one near you. I know we will be back.

We had such a good time today that I think I may have to make this a regular adventure...well not too regular or I am going to have to buy some elastic waist pants :D

Friends are a funny thing. They seem to come and go. It's really sad when the people who you think will always be there for you just walk out with no explaination. I guess lives change but it doesn't hurt any less. But, then there are friends who come into your life so unexpectantly and make such an impact. An innocent and honest question sparked a friendship that I am ever grateful for. We have shared so much. She is probably the only other person on earth, other than Nick, that knows the "real" me....secrets and all. She accepts me for me and I accept her for her 100%. She has pushed me and my art and has helped me to grow. She is my teacher and my muse. She is generous to a fault.

I miss you and our daily chats. I hope you are recooping and will be home soon. Everyone misses you!!! You are a light to so many.

The fantastically talented Dawn, of Createwings Designs, asked me if I would like to do a collab kit with her. I jumped at the chance. She is so talented and has such a great sense of design. It actually made me nervous to work with her. But, she indulged me and together we came up with the idea of a great summertime outdoors kit. Something to scrap all those park and backyard shots with. I have heard of the Pioneeer Woman in passing. How could you belong to any forum and not hear her name come up? But, I would just skim by and go, ok whatever. But the other day, some little voice in my head made me really go check her out and boy, am I glad I did! Not only is her site filled with gorgeous photography and tips but she has some wicked recipes to boot. And her kitchen....all I can say is DUDE! That is my idea of a nirvana. While perusing all the yumminess there, I came across this recipe for Baked Lemon Pasta. O.M.G.!!!! It's is so easy to make and so good! If you like the taste of fresh lemon, this is for you. It only took about 5 minutes to prepare. I did add poached chicken breast to mine to make it more of a meal. Nick and I both scarfed ours down. I really wanted to get seconds but refrained. I had it for breakfast instead...LOL! Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

I am a total techno geek. I admit it. I relish in it. I love gizmos and gadgets. My laptop is my second child. My camera is how I look at the world. I adore my GPS and in total love with my iPhone. I guess I am just a techno girl livin in techno times. My 5 year old son is the same. He is already a wiz on the computer, Xbox, Wii and my iPhone. He amazes me with how natural it all comes to him.
