Happy Birthday to us!

Holy cows!!! Where has the last year gone? It's hard to believe that only a year ago I was opening the doors to DeviantScrap. So much has happened in that time span. We have grown by leaps and bounds, amazing designers have joined me and a community of kindred spirits has formed. I am so grateful for all of these special events. I have such faith and belief in DS and thank everyone who has been a part of this journey.

As part of the celebration at DS, the designers have created mini kit freebies just for you! Visit each designers blog to pick up the next piece. (All of the kit previews are featured in the May issue of The Deviant Muse. Just click the previews in the Muse to take you to their blogs.)

You can download my Deviant Birthday mini kit HERE.

As part of the celebration, there is a storewide sale going on too. A sale like this doesn't come around too often so if you have had your eye on something...or somethings...now is the time to snap it up.

You can view everyone's sales info in this month's Muse, along with sneak peeks, interviews and loads of inspiration.

And finally, I have a fun new little kit debuting called, Party Animals.

This kit is filled with animals in their party finery, pedestals, bunting (a new obsession of mine), cake, candles and more.

Here is some fun my party crew created with it.

Clever People

One of my favorite things to do on the weekends is to pull up a chair, grab a cup of coffee (well, more like 3 or 4) and blog surf. I start at a few favs and then click from there. I just meander through cyber-space. I am always in awe of how many clever and talented people are out there.

Here are a few things/people that grabbed my attention today.

How clever is this wallpaper by Taylor and Woods?!?!?! You can paint it or you can add photos to it. Oh, how I wish I add a room (or dreaming big here, art studio) that I could do this. May have to work on the Mister to at least let me do the loo.

I love this vintage camera display by Tim Melideo. I have a few and maybe have to scout the flea markets for a few more. I think this would look awesome in our house. It's really a great idea for any collection.

If you have a boy in your life, then you probably have Lego in your life. Jason is an avid Lego builder and I have huge respect for the time that goes into building Lego creations.

Flickr user and Lego fan, Larry Lars created a Lego vignette of his home photo studio. Check out how faithful he was. So cool!

Next up is Natsumi. This clever girl has created a series of photographs in which she appears to be levitating. It's such a unique idea and I find her photos to be quite intriguing and captivating.

And finally, a bit of fun. Hope you have a giggle.

Do you know Ted?

Confession time. I should be working on my new kit but it's rainy, I am a bit under the weather and well....I got sidetracked. Blog surfing will do that. I love discovering new artists, new ideas and new websites. It's like a modern day treasure hunt. Today, I was on Gary Reef's website and he had linked up 2 very inspirational videos from Ted.com. Ted.com is an amazing website!! They post videos from some of the most amazing and inspirational people in the world. The videos are free to watch. Their tag line...."Ideas worth spreading." Most videos run about 20 mins and range from science to design to business.

I agree with Gary and think these two are definitely worth a watch.

First up is Elizabeth Gilbert. She is the author of Eat, Pray, Love, She has thought long and hard about some large topics. Her next fascination: genius, and how we ruin it. Here, she muses on the impossible things we expect from artists and geniuses -- and shares the radical idea that, instead of the rare person "being" a genius, all of us "have" a genius. It's a funny, personal and surprisingly moving talk.

Next is Neil Pasricha. Neil's blog 1000 Awesome Things savors life's simple pleasures, from free refills to clean sheets. In this heartfelt talk, he reveals the 3 secrets (all starting with A) to leading a life that's truly awesome.

I hope you find these talks as inspiring as I did. Be sure to check the site out as there so many other wonderful videos to watch.

Kitsch is here!

I have had an idea for this kit for a while. The design folder has been on my hard drive for at least a year. I have slowly been adding things to it as I find them or shoot them. The kit became a bit of a mash between the 60's and 70's with a little 50's thrown in. I have such fond memories of my childhood. Things were a lot simpler and more free. As kids we ran around, parents didn't worry and life as fun. I have vivid memories of piling into the car, stopping at our favorite donut shop (this was a treat!!) and then hitting the road. We loved to go camping and went often. Or going back East to visit my cousins. We were like a pack of puppies hanging out the back window of the station wagon, as we went on some new adventure. I am smiling to myself just thinking about those times. Happy memories for sure! Anyhow, now you know how this kit came about. Hope it brings back happy thoughts for you too!

Here is some awesome inspiration for my CT stars!

Exciting News!!!!

Look who is on the cover of Somerset Digital Studio!!!! Yep, that's us! The designers of DeviantScrap were beyond thrilled to be asked to create an exclusive kit for Somerset. Somerset is an AMAZING series of magazines catering to artists. I have been reading Somerset for years and every issue, whether it be Somerset Studio, Somerset Digital or any one of their other fantastic titles, is always filled with so much eye candy and inspiration!! They are the only art magazines I read. We had the honor to create a no-holds bar kit just for them. Color Splash is artsy, colorful and flat out fun. It can be used for scrapping, altered art, journaling, mixed media and more. This is one versatile kit...not to mention jam packed. Now, ready for the best part...this kit is FREE!!!! Yep, free! Simply pick up this magazine and read our article....there you will find the details. What you don't get Somerset in your country?!?!? Ack. Well, I would still check them out HERE (hint, hint.) And a big shout out to Joann, for having her layout with Color Splash make the cover!! It's the top one! Woot.

New & On Sale - Auntie Em & Steampunk Animals

I have 2 new kits for you today!! Both are on sale until Wednesday, March 2.

First up is Auntie Em. This kit is sort of a play on the Wizard of Oz. I like to imagine that after Dorothy came home that life got much better for Auntie Em. Her life went from drape and dreary to rich, warm and lovely. The Gales farm flourished, they traveled and attended fantastic parties....life was good to them.

Here are some amazing samples from my CT stars.

Next up is Steampunk Animals. I love Steampunk its such a wild and wonderful journey into the imagination. This assortment of critters are just the perfect addtion to help bring your worlds to life. If you are not familiar with it, be sure to check out the March issue of The Deviant Muse.

And here is some more yummy inspiration for you for my CT!!!

Hope everyone has a great week!!!!!
